watermark type
Background watermark: behind the text
A background watermark is drawn behind the page content rather than on top of it. The document's own text sits in front, fully legible, while the watermark shows through the gaps. Use it for letterheads, branded templates and anything where the reader must not have to read through a mark.
Background watermark, behind the content
Why layering matters
Most watermark tools draw a mark over everything, which forces a compromise: either the mark is bold enough to read and it competes with the document, or it is faint enough to ignore and it stops doing its job.
Placing the mark behind the content removes that compromise. We add the watermark as its own layer underneath the existing page content, so your text, tables and images render on top exactly as they did before. Nothing about the document changes except that a logo or word is now visible in the spaces.
Settings that work well
If you upload an image, we place that behind the content instead of text. Your logo keeps its own proportions and we blend its transparency so it does not look like a solid block pasted onto the page.
- Opacity 8-15% for a logo or wordmark on business documents
- Opacity 15-25% if the page is mostly white space and the mark should register
- Upload a PNG with a transparent background for the cleanest result
- Centre the mark; off-centre marks behind content read as printing errors
Protect the text, keep the branding
This is the style that answers the most common objection to watermarking: “I want my brand on the page, but I do not want to make my own document harder to read.” Because the content renders on top, a reader can select, search and copy the text normally.
Frequently asked questions
Does the document text stay fully readable?
Yes. The watermark is placed underneath the existing page content, so the document's own text renders on top of it. Nothing is painted over, and the text remains selectable and searchable exactly as before.
Can I put a logo behind the text instead of a word?
Yes. Upload a PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP image and choose the Behind the text style. PNG files with a transparent background give the cleanest result, because the logo blends into the page instead of sitting in a visible box.
Is a background watermark easy to remove?
Like any watermark added to the page content, it can be removed by someone with the right editing software, because there is no such thing as an unremovable watermark. Behind-the-text marks are slightly easier to isolate than tiled ones. If deterrence is the goal rather than branding, use the Tiled style, which is spread across the whole page.
