Watermark large PDF files

WalkingPDF accepts PDFs up to 100 MB and 300 pages per file on the free tier, with no sign-up and no per-hour throttle. Among the hosted watermark tools surveyed in October 2026, iLovePDF matches the 100 MB cap, Sejda is the only one to publish a page cap (200 on the free plan), and Smallpdf and PDF Candy do not publish either figure. The table below records the source of every number, and says where a vendor publishes none.

Free-plan figures were captured from the vendors' own pricing or help pages on 6 October 2026 as part of the competitor research used to set our own limits. Where a vendor does not publish a number, the cell says so instead of guessing; third-party figures are labelled as such.

Why page count is the real constraint

A server-side renderer holds the document in memory while it redraws every page, so the practical cost of a job tracks page count at least as much as megabytes: a 60 MB PDF scanned at high resolution can outwork a 90 MB file of compressed images. That is why this tool publishes both a size cap and a page cap, and why the two limits are enforced together.

Files beyond either limit are refused before any page is watermarked, with the limit that tripped named in the message, so a 400-page report is stopped with an explanation rather than failing halfway through a job.

  • 100 MB and 300 pages per file on the free tier
  • Both caps enforced up front, before processing starts
  • No hourly throttle, and the daily allowance is six files

Large files that arrive in bulk

For a drawer full of large drawings, the free tier is deliberately conservative: one file per job and six jobs a day. Batch processing of several files in a single run is part of the paid design described on the pricing page, and nothing on this page changes while it is still a plan.

If one document exceeds a single accepted file, splitting it into parts and applying the same settings to each part gives the same result today, and each part stays comfortably inside the limits.

Frequently asked questions

What is the largest PDF WalkingPDF can watermark?

The free tier accepts files up to 100 MB and 300 pages each, which covers drawing sets, tender packs, catalogues and long reports. Files beyond either limit are refused with a message naming the limit, before any page is processed.

Which online watermark tool handles the biggest files?

Among hosted tools with published figures, WalkingPDF (100 MB / 300 pages) and iLovePDF (100 MB per task) are the largest. Sejda's free plan caps at 50 MB and 200 pages, while Smallpdf and PDF Candy do not publish their free caps. Client-side tools appear unlimited only because they render on your own machine.

Why do some tools not publish their file limits?

Several vendors throttle by downloads or by time rather than by size, so a fixed file-number does not exist to publish, and others render their limits dynamically. This page quotes only published figures, and writes 'not published' rather than guessing.

Can I watermark a PDF larger than 100 MB?

The current free tier accepts no single file over 100 MB or 300 pages, so split the document into parts, apply the same settings to each part, and keep the marked parts alongside the master. Batch processing of several files at once is part of the paid design.
