Watermarking for branding
Brand watermarking turns ordinary PDFs into documents that identify themselves: a faint company logo behind the content, a footer line on every page, or a repeated mark where the file must read as yours at a glance. It is the difference between an attachment and a branded document, and it costs the reader nothing - at the right opacity the content stays the star of the page.
A faint logo sitting behind letterhead content
Three ways a brand can sit on the page
Each style claims a different part of the page. A faint logo behind the content - the Behind the text style with an uploaded image - is the quietest, and reads as subtle branding. A footer line is the business-standard place for a company name and contact. A repeated or diagonal mark is a statement: it says this document belongs to your organisation as clearly as a cover sheet.
| Style | Strength | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Image behind content | Subtle | Letterhead, reports, branded templates |
| Footer | Quiet authority | Every piece of outbound client paperwork |
| Diagonal text | Statement | Where the brand must be seen at once |
| Tiled | Unmistakable | Documents at risk of being copied or reused |
Keep the logo legible at its real size
A logo that reads well on screen should stay legible when the page is scaled and printed. Upload a PNG or JPEG at a sensible resolution; the tool keeps the aspect ratio and applies it as a fraction of the page width. For a background logo on letterhead, a width around 20-30% of the page at 15-25% opacity is the region professional documents sit in.
- Use a PNG with transparency for a clean background logo
- Start at 20-25% opacity and adjust against a printed page if possible
- Put company name in the footer as text, not just as an image
- Keep the watermark logo identical to the one on your letterhead

Frequently asked questions
What is the best image format for a logo watermark?
A PNG with a transparent background is ideal because it sits on the page without a white box around it. JPEG works too but brings a rectangular background, which shows behind the text unless you lower the opacity. WebP, GIF, BMP and TIFF logos are also accepted.
Will a background logo make my documents hard to read?
At the opacity branding normally uses - 15-25% behind the text - the document underneath stays fully legible: the mark shows through gaps and sits behind the letters rather than over them. If a page is dense, lower the opacity further or keep the image smaller so the brand presence stays without the content competing with it.
