use case
Watermarking technical drawings
Technical drawings leave the office as PDF exports and travel as attachments, prints and site copies. A watermark keeps the ownership and state on every sheet: your company name in the bottom margin on every drawing, a diagonal DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL mark on revisions that must not be used for construction, and an unmarked clean master only where it belongs.

Sheets travel alone
Drawing sets are printed sheet by sheet, and a single sheet on a site bench or in an email has lost its cover page. The watermark is the only label that survives that journey. Put the ownership line in the footer on every sheet and use a diagonal or tiled mark for anything that must not be relied on - a DRAFT revision, a CONFIDENTIAL tender package, a CLIENT COPY.
- Footer on every sheet: company name, drawing set identifier or contact
- Diagonal DRAFT on revisions that are not approved for use
- CONFIDENTIAL on tender and quotation drawing packages
- Consistent placement so the mark never hides dimensions or notes
Style for dense sheets
Drawings pack information into every corner, so a watermark must not argue with dimensions, notes or the title block. A diagonal mark at 15-20% stays visible while every number stays readable. For very dense sheets, the Behind the text style places the mark under the line work, which reads cleanly on technical content and is the style reviewers generally prefer.
| Situation | Recommended | Opacity |
|---|---|---|
| Every sheet leaves the office | Footer | normal text strength |
| Revision not approved | Diagonal DRAFT | 20% |
| Tender package, restricted | Diagonal CONFIDENTIAL | 25% |
| Client copy of a finished set | Diagonal CLIENT COPY | 20% |

Frequently asked questions
Will the watermark hide dimensions or notes on my drawings?
At the opacity drawings normally use, a 15-20% mark leaves every number and note readable, and in the Behind the text style the mark sits under the line work entirely. Check the preview on your densest sheet once - that page, not the cover, decides whether the opacity is right.
Can I watermark mixed-size pages such as A4 notes and A0 sheets?
Yes. Each page is watermarked according to its own size, so an A0 sheet gets a mark that fits the A0 sheet and an A4 notes page gets one sized to it. The style and wording are identical across the set - only the scale adapts - which is the professional look drawing sets need.
